APEC 2013 Return Bali Indonesia |
APEC 2013 in Bali Indonesia,10 Indonesian cities to host APEC meetings
President Obama is looking forward to returning to his boyhood country of Indonesia for the APEC Summit in 2013. He moved there when he was just seven years old and lived there for four years.
While in Indonesia, he attended school, made many friends, and enjoyed the local cuisine. President Obama is clearly beloved by many there. The President plans to bring the First Lady along for the trip, but has wisely decided to leave his beloved dog Bo safely behind back home.
Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Mari Elka Pangestu has stated that 10 major Indonesian cities will host a series of Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meetings in October 2013. "Besides the main event, we will have a series of international programmes and meetings, including music and art shows and seminars," she said on the sidelines of a coordination meeting on the Master Plan for the Acceleration and Expansion of Indonesia`s Economic Development (MP3EI).
Mari added that the 10 major cities were Lombok, Medan, Palembang, Yogyakarta, Bandung, Jakarta, Manado, Makassar, Semarang, and Surabaya. Although the APEC Summit itself will take place in Bali, the idea behind holding the other meetings in major cities outside the province is to promote the potential of the country as a whole in order to boost the creative economy, she explained.
"This is a good opportunity for Indonesia," Mari noted. When asked about tourism potential of the 10 cities where the meetings are scheduled to be held, she said "it would be promoted at the venue of the meeting". "When the APEC meeting will be held in Surabaya, for example, we will promote Mount Bromo and the Batu tourist resort, among other things," Mari stated. "We also have books and films ready to promote the 10 places during the APEC meetings," she added.
The APEC Indonesia 2013 Host Committee held a contest for Indonesian citizens to come up with a suitable logo for the 2013 APEC Summit. President Obama, handy with Photoshop, inquired if he would be able to enter the contest since he lived there as a boy. His request was approved and happily, his original design for the APEC Indonesia 2013 logo was chosen as the first runner-up
It's never too early to look forward to the next annual APEC leaders official family photo. While it would be hard to top the APEC costumes from Hawaii in 2011 and Vladivostok in 2012, the White House is certain that Indonesia will come through with another memorable choice. Selamat Datang!
