Approximately 75 employees at the U.S. Embassy in Yemen has been evacuated by U.S. military aircraft because of the threat of terror throughout the region. Similarly, a U.S. official said on Tuesday.
'' The aircraft, which is accompanied by a support plane, flew to the U.S. air base in Ramstein, Germany,'' said the official who asked not to be named. A Pentagon official declined to comment because of security reasons.
Pentagon employees previously said it flew out of Yemen at the request of the State Department amid fears of possible attacks after Al Qaeda intercepts a message from the leader of the group which called for attacks.
"The U.S. Defense Department still has personnel on the ground to support the U.S. State Department and monitor the security situation," said Pentagon spokesman George Little said in a statement.
The State Department also urged U.S. citizens not to travel to Yemen and urged those who were in Yemen to leave that location.
A U.S. flagged passenger plane landed at the airport in Sana'a. The aircraft may be used to evacuate U.S. citizens.
Meanwhile, residents reported that two unmanned aircraft have flown over the capital. The United States is the only country known to have unmanned aircraft operating in Yemen.
