What would a celebrity wedding be without helicopters and swarming teams of security? In what is being billed as the nuptials of the year, model Jennifer Hawkins and her teenage sweetheart Jake Wall said "I do" during a small celebration in
Uluwatu, Bali, at 4pm yesterday. While the intimate service was shrouded in secrecy, it didn't prevent helicopters from capturing images of the event, staged atop the cliff face at the luxury Semara resort.
Resplendent in a traditional, strapless ivory gown complete with a veil and train, the Myer ambassador was flanked by her older sister, Kristy Vitnell, and best friend Melina Molina, who were dressed in soft pink bridesmaids gowns. Hawkins, who flew her preferred hair and make up artists Kieran Street and Liz Kelsh to
Bali, wore her hair in soft beachy waves and kept her make-up natural and fresh amid the humid 30 degree temperatures.
A guest list of 60, comprising the bride and groom's closest friends and family, began arriving at around 3.30pm for the sunset ceremony. Following the vows, the wedding contingent were welcomed into an all-white themed reception held inside a marquee adorned with arrangements of fresh blooms and hundreds of candles. The champagne flowed following a sit-down dinner, with the celebrations continuing on the dance floor, with guests kicking up their heels past midnight.
Hawkins was said to be "really excited," a source told WHO of the beaming bride, 29. "She's never looked better!"
In an effort to thwart paparazzi, bodyguards swarmed all areas of the resort, including the hotel's beach club—booked out exclusively for the newlyweds and their guests for three days.
Having hired an “amazing” wedding planner to orchestrate her big day, Hawkins successfully managed a no-fuss approach in the lead-up to the nuptials. “I just want to have a really good time, I just want all the fluffy bits done so I can just turn up and have an amazing time,” she told WHO. “I just want to see the faces of everyone I love and not be stressed. When you’re stressed I think everything becomes a blur.”
A source from the Hawkins camp confirms the Australia’s Next Top Model host was in top form: “She was incredibly relaxed—definitely not a bridezilla!”
As for the all-important gown, reports suggest Hawkins' wedding dress was created by one of Myer’s stable of sought-after designers. “It was probably the hardest thing; I changed my mind a million times but once I locked it in, I felt amazing,” Hawkins recently revealed. “The only thing that was really important after that was the entertainment, the music, the guest list and where people sat.”
Details of the day aside, the bride—a self-confessed romantic—is excited about consolidating her relationship with builder Wall, 30, eight years after they first met in a nightclub in their hometown of Newcastle. “I hate saying he’s my best friend because I find him really sexy,” Hawkins told WHO. “But there’s a spark there and I love that. He's such a lovely guy and I’m so glad that I found him.”
