Panagia Hozoviotissa, White Monastery Above the Aegean Sea |

Panagia Hozoviotissa is one of the world's highest monastery located 300 meters above sea level. Whitewashed monastery was built on the Aegean Sea on the island of Amorgos, Greece.
Clinging to the side of a steep cliff, the monastery was built in the 11th century. The purpose of the construction of Panagia Hozoviotissa is to protect the religious icon of the Virgin Mary of the robberies committed by the pirates.
The icon of the Virgin Mary on display in the monastery, believed to mysteriously arrive on the beach below the cliff, which was taken by an unmanned ship of Palestine.
With about 40 meters high and 5 meters wide, this monastery has labyrinths, cells, and various types of rooms used for religious purposes. Visitors can find a small stone staircase leading to the entrance of the monastery, which is right on the east side of the monastery.
Previously, there was a wooden ladder that can be drawn ride there to prevent pirate attacks. The shape of this monastery itself has gone through several changes over time. Visitors can also find a monastery altar with wooden ceiling and an impressive table in the convent.
