The name itself is taken from the Champagne Pool embodiment of water in these springs which resembles alcoholic beverages, champagne. The springs also has a bright color of the water, which comes from minerals and silicate-rich sediments.

Meanwhile, the conditions around the edges of the pool is filled by a variety of microbes. This heated pool was formed 900 years ago by a hydrothermal eruption, which then formed a crater 65 meters in diameter with a depth of 62 meters.

With the water temperature reaches 74 degrees Celsius, the rocks around the pond contains a lot of mercury, thallium, gold and also silver. Excess water from Champagne Pool hot spring pools also support other nearby called the Artist's Palette. Water in the Artist's Palette is yellow because of the deposition of sulfur found in the pond.
